Stormwater treatment for watering the parks and gardens at South Cronulla Beach...

Sutherland council has installed a 300,000 L Stormtech underground water strorage tank as part of a recent water reuse demonstration project for South Cronulla Beach.

The water reuse project made use of council's existing road drainage system to intercept, treat, store and reuse otherwise wasted clean stormwater.

The stormwater is primary treated with a Gross Pollutant Trap (GPT) to remove litter and contaminates found in stormwater run off.

The treated water is then diverted to a 300,000L Stormtech Underground Aquifer beneath the park lawn area adjacent  to the beach. The patented Isolator row filtration system further treats the incoming water by capturing fine solids and other particles. The tank was sized to provide ample storage capacity for large volumes of water during periods of low rainfall.

When needed, the water is pumped through a tertiary water treatment system which tops up an existing irrigation tank at the southern end of the park.

The treated A class water is used for irrigation and may be connected to the nearby public toilet facilities in the future.
